First and foremost, there is of course Lake Weissensee itself. Situated at an elevation of 930 meters, it covers an area of more than six square kilometers. And although it is the highest alpine bathing lake, it warms up to a pleasant 23°C in summer. This is thanks to the low wind conditions, abundant sunshine, and limited water exchange.
As there are hardly any algae in Lake Weissensee, the visibility reaches up to 15 meters—perfect for anyone who wants to try diving on holiday or simply take a refreshing plunge into the water. You might even visit the diving school and pick up a few tips from the pros!
A summer highlight is the beach area in Stockenboi. Here, the turquoise-blue, almost crystal-clear water invites you not only to dive and swim, but also to surf, sail, paddle, and enjoy water biking. Younger visitors can look forward to a great playground and an exciting water trampoline, while adults can relax on sun loungers along the gently sloping natural beach. Sunshades and changing facilities are, of course, also available.
By the way, the water in Lake Weissensee is so чисто that 22 species of fish thrive here. Anglers especially appreciate this diversity—from carp and lake trout to pike-perch, almost everything can be found here. The international fishing competition “Golden Trout” has been held at Lake Weissensee for over 30 years!
Breathe deeply and recharge in the Weissensee Nature Park
Beyond the water, the area around Stockenboi also offers a wide range of opportunities for relaxation. In the Weissensee Nature Park—celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2017—there’s plenty going on, especially during the summer months. Guided tours with a real ranger, romantic horse-drawn carriage rides, and interesting workshops (for example on “wild herb cuisine”) create unforgettable experiences.
A highlight of the annual event calendar is the summer music and cultural festival “woodstockenboi,” which delights both locals and visitors. It takes place in a beautiful natural arena that provides the perfect setting. Prefer peace and quiet, enjoying tranquil moments by the lake? That wish is easily fulfilled in Carinthia as well! Around Lake Weissensee, several idyllic village and relaxation spots have been created, inviting you to linger all year round. Equipped with cozy wooden furniture, they are perfect for relaxing, dreaming, and unwinding.
